ACECQA Approved First Aid for People Who Work with Children
Our ACECQA approved Childcare First Aid course covers HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting, the first aid unit designed for early childhood educators, family day care and OSHC staff, nannies, teachers and teacher aides. On top of general first aid and CPR, it focuses on the emergencies most likely to happen around babies and children, including asthma attacks, anaphylaxis and choking.
One course meets all three ACECQA training requirements for educators: first aid, emergency asthma management and anaphylaxis management. You study the theory online at your own pace, then attend a 4-hour practical session in Brisbane or on the Gold Coast.
Not working with children?
Our standard First Aid course (HLTAID011) suits most other workplaces, and our CPR course is the quickest way to refresh your CPR each year.

Frequently asked questions (FAQS)
Is this course ACECQA approved?
Yes. HLTAID012 is on ACECQA's list of approved first aid qualifications, and it meets the first aid, emergency asthma management and anaphylaxis management training requirements for education and care services under the Education and Care Services National Regulations. ACECQA approves the qualification rather than individual training providers, so it's delivered by Registered Training Organisations like First Aid Today that have HLTAID012 on their scope of registration. You can check HLTAID012 against ACECQA's approved first aid qualifications.
How long does a Childcare First Aid certificate last?
Your certificate doesn't have an expiry date, but to stay current for education and care, ACECQA requires approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training to be completed every 3 years, and CPR (HLTAID009) every 12 months. Between renewals you can keep your CPR current with our 1.5-hour CPR refresher.
How much does the Childcare First Aid course cost?
$119, which includes all four units on one Statement of Attainment: HLTAID012, HLTAID011, HLTAID010 and HLTAID009.
What's the difference between Childcare First Aid and the standard First Aid course?
Both include CPR and general first aid. Childcare First Aid adds HLTAID012, which covers asthma, anaphylaxis and emergencies involving babies and children in more depth. If you work in education and care, choose this course.
Do I need to study before the course?
Yes. After booking you'll get access to self-paced online learning, which you complete before your practical session.
Is there a physical assessment?
Yes. As part of the CPR assessment, you need to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin on the floor, and CPR on an infant manikin on a firm surface. If you have an injury or condition that could make this difficult, contact us before you book so we can talk through your options.
Do I need a USI?
Yes. We need a verified Unique Student Identifier (USI) before we can issue your certificate. You'll enter it after booking, and if you have trouble, your trainer can help on the day.
